Sustainability is something that’s always been at the heart of how we do business at Bellmont Partners: We’re focused on forming lasting, sustainable relationships with our clients and strategic partners. We don’t want to be a flash in the pan: We’re here for the long-term, and we’re proud to say our strategy has paid off – we’re celebrating our 22nd anniversary this August.
In terms of sustainability from an environmental standpoint, although we’ve always worked to be good stewards of our environment, we decided to formalize our efforts in April 2017. Over the past 14 months, we’re proud to have rolled out several new green practices around the office, with the goal of reducing our agency’s overall footprint on the planet to ensure it’s beautiful, clean and green for future generations.
Our biggest change around the office has been the introduction of organics recycling, or composting. With help from the folks at Hennepin County Business Recycling, we found out that our office building already had a commercial organics recycling dumpster, which is picked up by our building’s waste hauler and taken to a commercial composting facility where it breaks down into nutrient-rich soil and fertilizer. After a few trial-and-error rounds of finding the right compost bins and employee education sessions, we now compost all of our food waste, including at events.
In addition to composting, we’ve begun purposefully seeking out more sustainable office supplies, such as additional re-usable utensils, plates, bowls and glasses for the kitchen, high-efficiency lightbulbs for lamps and cartridge-free printer ink. For events, we’ve also rolled out compostable plates, utensils and napkins and clearly mark how to dispose of food waste vs. recyclables vs. trash so guests aren’t confused.
We’ve also had some fun with our new focus on sustainability: we completed two Lean+Green Challenges – friendly health & wellness and sustainability competitions – through Hennepin County Health@Work, participated in Car-Free Day with Move Minneapolis and are growing our own herbs and vegetables on our patio this summer.
We’re proud of the work we’ve done to become a more sustainable business, putting into action one of our agency’s core values: being invested in our local and global community. With each new year, we expand our plan with ideas of how we can become even more environmentally friendly and an excellent member of our community.
