After attending dozens of planning meetings, distributing hundreds of press releases and media kits, and walking a combined 151,313 steps (or about 65 miles) between four staff members over the span of three days, the 2014 Uptown Art Fair is officially in the books.
One of the highest attended events in the state (second only to the Minnesota State Fair), Uptown Art Fair season is also one of the busiest (and most fun) times here in the Bellmont Partners office. The days and weeks leading up to the art fair are spent gathering new stories to tell about the fair, coordinating media interviews with the art fair staff and artists, and creating interview schedules with morning call times when many Uptown revelers are just going to bed. With this being our second year managing the media relations for the Uptown Art Fair, we knew more of what to expect and were geared up to help the art fair celebrate 51 years.
A little bleary-eyed but ready to take on the weekend, Bellmont Partners staff arrived in Uptown at 4:15 a.m. on Friday to start setting up live shots with KARE 11, KSTP-TV and FOX 9. Uptown Executive director Maude Lovelle, 2014 Commemorative Artist Heather Renaux, and participating artists Eun Hee Kim and Charles Deckas all did a fantastic job talking about the fair and expressing their passion for their art. Additional radio and TV interviews by Maude, Heather and Uptown Association Board Member Natasha Greiling also went great later in the day.
Saturday morning provided a little later call time to Uptown (6 a.m.) and once again Maude, Heather, Jon from Shameless Inc., Doug from Kitchen Window, three youth artists, Susan from Northern Clay, and a couple belly dancers from Al-Bahira dance troupe provided informative, visual and fun interviews for WCCO and FOX 9. Who doesn’t enjoy a little belly dancing on Hennepin Avenue at 7:30 a.m.? We coordinated several other interviews throughout the day, and even found enough time to pick up a few pieces of art for our new offices.
As the art fair wrapped up on Sunday, we reflected on all of the hard work put into the fair by the Uptown Association staff, board members, steering committee, volunteers, vendors, sponsors and others. It is no wonder why the Uptown Art Fair one of the top art fairs in the country, and we are honored to be a part of it.
Here’s to the memories, 51st Annual Uptown Art Fair. Our Fitbits thank you.
