We’ve mentioned the nonprofit youth journalism program ThreeSixty Journalism several times, and for good reason. It’s a phenomenal program through the University of St. Thomas that uses the principles of strong writing and reporting to help diverse Minnesota youth tell stories of their lives and communities.
We’ve supported the organization for the past eight years, and I’ve served on its Board of Advisors for the past four. Our newest employee Briana Gruenewald was its former communications and marketing coordinator. David Hlavac has shared his expertise several times during summer camp. And most recently, Maggie LaMaack spent three days with students as a 2014 summer camp mentor.
Our ties run deep with the organization. This fall, we’re kicking it up a notch!
Bellmont Partners is the first public relations agency to raise money for the program in advance of ThreeSixty’s Nov. 14 fundraiser for an initiative called “bundling.”
Since 2011, newsrooms and other media groups, including the Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, KARE, WCCO, KSTP and MPR, have used the weeks leading up to the annual ThreeSixty dinner and fundraiser to creatively solicit funds from colleagues and peers by hosting silent auctions, bake sales, Taco in a Bag lunches and email campaigns. Last year, Pioneer Press reporter Fred Melo even shaved his head down to the bone because every person in the newsroom donated to the cause.
We’re not doing anything quite that extreme. But, we’d like our clients, friends, family and peers to join us from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at our Edina office for a cocktail party to take in the fall foliage from our deck, and learn a little more about ThreeSixty. Students, alumni, staff and supporters – including journalists – will be here to speak to the transformative nature of the program.
Let us know if you’d like to join us in supporting the next generation of storytellers. Call (612-255-1108) or email Briana and she’d be happy to send you an invitation to the event!
