Bellmont Partners client Minnesota Reading Corps/Minnesota Math Corps was featured in a great piece by Norman Draper in the StarTribune yesterday on how seniors are helping Minnesota’s kids with reading and writing.
Part of the piece was picked up by The Huffington Post today as part of a piece on how seniors are giving back by heading back into the classroom.
“If you teach children to read, they can read to learn for the rest of their lives,” Minnesota Reading Corps member Dawn McLean is quoted as saying. “You want to leave things better than when you found them.”
Both organizations are in the middle of a campaign to recruit adults of any age as tutors for the 2011-2012 school year. Minnesota Reading Corps is working to recruit more than 800 tutors for the 2011-2012 school year, up from 670 this year. Minnesota Math Corps, now in its third year, is set to double in size, from 50 to 100.
